Calling all curious campers, spreadsheet scouts, and aspiring local gov trailblazers — ELGL’s Analyst Academy is back, and this year, we're heading to Camp Govlife!

Earn your official merit badges in the essential skills every local gov analyst needs to survive in the wild world of local government. This training is s'more than just professional development — it’s a campy career-boosting experience you won’t forget.

What to Expect

A full-day curated training experience on Wednesday, Oct.1, 2025 held at the coLAB in Santa Rosa, CA. This training will focus on emerging- and early to mid-career local government analysts who want to develop or refresh key skills and collaborate and network with similar local government colleagues. The day will be structured with a combination of presentations, small group breakouts, and team exercises taught by our camp counselors, a.k.a., active local government practitioners. Pre-read materials to prepare you to participate will be emailed in advance.

Training Topics

With a variety of duties that support local government operations, analyst training topics include:

The Basics Badge: Understand the fundamentals and pack your backpack with the must-know essentials.
Field Guide Badge: Create your personal playbook to help you blaze your own trail (with fewer blisters).
Trail Marker Badge: Problem definition skills to help you stay on course and deliver real results.
Compass Badge: Learn to weave equity into your analysis with intention, so no camper gets left behind.
Team Spirit Badge: Build collaboration skills and team spirit so you can paddle together and stay afloat.
Bugle Call Badge: Build your confidence in facilitation and lead the charge with community engagement.
Explorer Badge: Stir up innovation and bring fresh ideas to life (no glitter glue required).
Trail Map Badge: Map out your year like a pro with practical strategies for staying organized.
Wellness Badge: Practice self-care that help you avoid burnout and paddle through the tough stuff.
Storytelling Circle Badge: Grab your trail mix and gather 'round the campfire for some Q&A time with seasoned local gov professionals who’ve been down the trail.
Friendship Badge: Connect and make new friendships meant to last beyond camp.
Memory Maker Badge: Strike a pose for our official camp photo!

Training will include a number of tools, tactics, and approaches for you to take back and share with your colleagues and organization.

Cost and Maximum Participants

$100 includes the full-day training, materials, and lunch.
25 slots are available for the 2025 ELGL Analyst Academy on a first come first serve basis. This limited number of seats allows for a curated and collaborative setting for maximum participant experience.

About the ELGL Analyst Academy Training Program

Local governments employ talented people at the analyst level — across all departments and job functions. While this group is responsible for budget, data analysis, personnel planning, process improvement, change management, innovation, and more, it's a group that can be left behind in the legacy of local government associations.

ELGL recognizes the critical role analyst positions play in local government. The ELGL Analyst Academy provides a unique, curated space to connect and educate early to mid-career local government analyst professionals. This training is offered periodically and has been held in sites around the country.
